Standard House Clean: What to Expect

Customers are often dissatisfied with their first professional clean because they expected services that were not part of the booking. House cleaning services cover specific areas of the home, and anything outside that scope needs to be requested and paid for as an add-on before the appointment.

What a Standard Clean Covers

These are the tasks covered in every standard house clean through Urgent Pro. They are reflected in the service warranty and the pricing schedule.

Kitchen

Benchtops and splashback are cleaned, as is the sink. The stovetop is cleaned on the surface, but not the oven interior. The microwave is cleaned inside and out. The cupboard door fronts are wiped down, and the floors are mopped.

Bathrooms

The shower screen, bath and tapware are cleaned. The mirror and benchtops are cleaned. The toilet bowl, seat and base are cleaned. The floor is mopped.

A thorough wipe-down of furniture surfaces is a core part of what Australian households can expect from a standard house clean.

All Other Rooms

Accessible surfaces are dusted and floors are vacuumed and mopped.

Things Not Included in the Standard Clean

Excluding these tasks from the standard clean is a deliberate decision. Each one falls outside a standard maintenance visit because of the nature of the task, time constraints, or the need for specialist equipment.

Oven Interior – Cleaning the interior of an oven requires chemical degreasers and sometimes heat. A provider cannot clean the oven interior if it has not first been made accessible and safe by the customer beforehand.

Fridge Interior – The customer must arrange for all food to be removed and a continuous 24-hour defrost before the interior can be cleaned.

Windows – Ground-floor interior windows are within scope. Windows above ground level require ladder access, which falls outside the standard safety scope of a domestic cleaning visit. Ladder access must be specifically arranged and confirmed in advance.

Mould – Only visible mould on non-porous surfaces can be removed during a standard clean. Mould in grout, silicone or other porous materials requires specialist treatment. Grout is a porous surface and mould within it is not covered by a standard booking.

Wall Washing – Paint and wallpaper require careful product selection to avoid damage. Wall washing adds significant time and is not included in a routine clean.

Carpet Stain Removal – For a standard clean, vacuuming is included. Steam extraction and stain treatment are a separate service. For anything beyond a standard vacuum, book a separate professional carpet cleaning appointment.

Add-Ons That Can Be Confirmed at the Time of Booking

Three additional tasks can be added to a standard booking if they are confirmed in writing at the time of booking. These cannot be added on the day of service without a new quote and prior approval.

Oven interior clean: The oven must be accessible and electrically safe on the day of service.

Fridge interior clean: The fridge must be completely emptied and fully defrosted for at least 24 hours before the clean. If these conditions are not met on the day, the task will not proceed and the variation fee may still apply.

Windows above ground level: Safe ladder access must be confirmed and available at the time of booking.

If you are unsure whether a task falls inside or outside the standard scope, ask when requesting a quote. The scope set in the booking confirmation does not expand on the day of service without prior approval.

Urgent Pro provides a 24-hour window to request a re-clean of any service within the confirmed scope that was not completed satisfactorily. Any task within the confirmed scope that is missed or not completed to standard is treated as a defect. Defects are remedied at no additional cost, provided they are reported to Urgent Pro within 24 hours of the clean.

Under the Australian Consumer Law guarantees for services, all services must be performed with due care and skill. Urgent Pro addresses complaints about service quality directly. Urgent Pro’s cleaning service warranty outlines the scope of cover and the claims process in full.

Every booking is cleaned to the standard confirmed at the time of booking. If benchtops were in scope and were not cleaned to standard, Urgent Pro will arrange for them to be remedied. If the oven interior was not confirmed, a complaint about the oven falls outside the warranty. Defects should be reported to Urgent Pro within 24 hours by calling 1300 105 453. The full booking and re-clean process is explained on the how it works page.

Cleaning services are priced based on a number of variables including the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, and other contributing factors. Work is only scheduled after a fixed price has been agreed upon. Each quote is prepared after reviewing the circumstances specific to that job, including the size and condition of the property. The frequency of cleaning also affects the final price. More detail on these factors is available on the Urgent Pro pricing page. The cost of house cleaning in Australia is also covered in detail on the blog.

A standard clean returns a maintained property to a clean and presentable condition. A deep clean is often required to bring the property back up to a standard where a routine clean would be effective. For a full breakdown of when each service applies, see deep clean vs standard clean.

Deep cleans include additional services such as cleaning the internal components of appliances and exhaust fans, as well as treatments for grout, skirting boards, and light fittings. These services are not included in routine cleans. If your property has not recently had a professional clean, a deep clean is the appropriate service to book first.

FAQs

What preparation is required before the cleaner arrives?

Before the cleaners arrive, put away loose items from benchtops and the floor, secure valuables, and make sure the provider has the information needed to easily access the property and parking. If you have booked inside oven or fridge cleans as add-ons, ensure the oven is accessible and the fridge is defrosted and empty before the appointment.

What if something is not cleaned properly?

If something is not cleaned to your satisfaction, contact Urgent Pro within 24 hours. If the issue falls within the confirmed scope, the provider will return to rectify it at no charge. The 24-hour window applies only to the confirmed scope. To ensure your requirements and expectations are documented from the start, book a house clean.
